WE ARE NOT A FARM. We are a family of 5. Though we live in the middle of town (by some rodeo grounds), we have a small garden and try to live simply. Mostly vegetarian/vegan meals. We are a smoke and alcohol free home. (smokers who have stayed here just set up a corner outside) Yet we have no shortage of art, music, and laughter.

Dad is a school psychologist. 14 year old daughter is starting at the University this fall and rides the bus system everywhere. Our two boys (11, 8) are home schooled.

We have had many people stay with us (hosted foreign exchange students for the past 15 years) and have benefited greatly from all the joy they have added to our family.

Our home is simple, and quarters are such that it is definitely family living. Offer a furnished bedroom (twin sized bed, closet, & dresser), shared bath, yummy meals, and lots of laughter in exchange for helping with household chores/repair (indoor/outdoor), sharing knowledge with us, cleaning, cooking prep, keepi... more inside

I am now looking for help in spring and summer 2011 ( we have time in November only this year if that works for you ) .... the property is recovering well from a wildfire that swept through the county in 2008. I am grateful for help and company to keep pushing the projects along.... trying to predict these is difficult so a really flexible attitude is welcomed... a good work ethic is appreciated too.... length of stay is negotiable ; non-smokers please.
We'd work 4/5 hours together usually in the mornings, then afternoons and evenings would be your time. There is the possibility of using a vehicle ( and a bicycle :0 )to get out and see the area. We share the preparation of meals and normal housework which are not included in work hours....
Property work involves fencing, shed / shelter construction, mowing, moving mulch, cleaning fields , tree planting, chainsawing, painting, gardening, and horse care etc.
The various animals include the obligatory dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats, 5 h... more inside

"Resident volunteers" from HelpX and Wwoof have been a Godsend to our non-profit working ranch serving children and animals on our 55 acre ranch. When we lost our site development funding the day after 9-11, we thought the ranch would go under. But the children who had been coming to the ranch during after school programs and summer camps refused to let that happen. They gave up their fun time on the ranch riding horses and driving go-carts to work every minute they could to keep the ranch going. They hand dug fence posts, built shelters for the animals and did whatever was needed.

In as much as they loved the ranch, they missed their fun times on the ranch until we got our first "resident volunteer" from Wwoof and more followed who also came from HelpX.

Once we signed up with HelpX and Wwoof, the ranch has continually progressed forward thanks to some wonderful help from around the world.

When a new resident volunteer arrives here on the ranch, I warn them to get their ... more inside

Steven created a most comfortable setting with all the comfort we are used to these days.
