We are a cultural and arts community that is working towards being self-sustained. The community is situated in the mountains of Monchique, Portugal surrounded by nature. Our community provides an alternative way of living with permaculture gardens, farm animals, sustainability projects, and arts and cultural workshops. It is a great place to come to meet other like-minded people if you are passionate about sustainability and alternative living. We hold community meetings throughout the week alongside activities and workshops, such as quiz nights, dance nights and yoga classes. If you have something you are passionate about and want to share with others, we would love for you to run a workshop. One of the best things here is the variety of tasks you can do as a volunteer, which gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and discover what you enjoy doing most. We have a combination of short-term and long-term volunteers and on average we have between 10 to 20 volunteers and resident...

Permaculture project with idea and space to create an eco-village. The quinta is located in Alto Alentejo 2km from Portalegre. 15 hectares with magical forests and a beautiful valley provided by seventeen sources and several mines with healthy water where too people live permanently for the moment,Isabel, a communication manager and Michel, a carpenter who is the founder of the project. There is also one dog, five cats, for chickens and six sheep. The project is now in the phase when it’s open so that more people can live here. Because parts of the ruins are ready for occupancy, there is space for people who want to stay longer, which can bring new and stronger dynamics throughout the year, not like before, when there was only a lot going on in the summer months. So far there is already a beautiful gardens going on and numerous species of plants, shrubs and trees which deliver us plenty of food. We are happy when someone shows enthusiasm for the garden because this is a central part...

We are an operating farm. Mostly silviculture. We farm mostly trees. We are situated in one of the largest Cork Tree areas in the world.Mediterranean forest ecoystems are considered one of the most important ecosystems right after Virgin Forests. We also have lots of pine trees both for lumber and also for pine nuts. Cork and pine nut trees are a very sustainable resource as their lifespan is over 200 years and they produce cork and pine nuts during that time. We pride ourselves for being an environmentally responsible farm and we enjoy teaching volunteers and visitors about what we do. We are a Forest Stewardship Council certified farm. FSC is a worldwide recognized organization that certifies socially and environmentally respectful organizations like ours, that harbour and follow, strict guidelines for workers, neighbouring populations and the environment. We are audited on a regular basis. Connectedness on a farm in Portugal Are You looking for a way to live a life in harmony with nature? With natural cultivation, fruit that tastes like when you were a child... good water and clean air - the opportunity to build your "own" new home there? 💫 Maybe this is your chance. On a self-sufficient farm in Portugal, you have the chance to find out whether it could be your way to actively participate in a paradise that has already been created. I am looking for appreciative fellow campaigners who not only respect what has already been created, but also continue the project together with heart and dedication. It is helpful to have 😊 a love of animals and nature, initiative and mindfulness, love - for what you do and for life. Hello everybody!! Thank you so much for your precious help on the past seasons! WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU FOR THE GREAT SEASON 2026!! The hostel is a family business, a factory of friendship, as we usually call it, and has a very relaxed atmosphere, located in a fantastic spot with excellent beaches. It`s a small hostel with 11 rooms and a maximum capacity for 30 people. We prefer helpers that can stay for one month or more, the minimal stay is for 4 weeks. We are searching for happy and friendly people with willingness to work and to enjoy the place and the moment. We offer the stay, in a shared room just for Volunteers, with bathroom, and we offer the breakfast (portuguese tradicional breakfast) in exchange of 3/4 h of DAILY (EVERY DAY) work (usually in the morning, except when waiting for new guests, something that we manage here all together, but its a rare thing to happen because usually its us who welcome the guests), having all the day left off, just for yourself, 7 days a w...

Olá, calling for some help in Central Portugal. We have a rural land next to a lake. Part of it I have been rewilding to protect the original Nature. I'm a Portuguese female in my late forties. I returned to Portugal after living in the UK for several years (to be honest, I'm still adjusting to living again in Portugal, not an easy country... :) After the big storm, the land became a bit of a chaos with fallen trees and branches. Most of the clearing of the branches is done. But still there is a lot to be done, to decrease the risk of fires. I need an extra pair of hands to help with the clearing of the land. I just need a person to come for the day to help for one or two hours, whatever you can give. The rest of the day you can enjoy yourself as you please, in the lake or walking around. The main tasks I would like help with: * Being present for safety * Moving branches around (to tidy them away or to give to me while I´m shredding them) * Moving the shredded material away (wi...

Hi my name is Jasmine, I am one part of a collective of soul aligned individuals, who are called to co create a nature immersive container for healing, celebration and connection. We are in the early stages of the volunteer program, but my personal experience from hosting volunteers over the last few years, in my previous eco project, means that I am well aware of the importance of valuing the team, making sure that you feel welcome, that you are well fed and that you have a comfortable space . I like to be clear in my communication, so that you know what is expected of you in regard to your hours of work and your time off. It is also very important to me that you have a good time and enjoy the beauty of the local area and have some good company. This an 11 hectare nature sanctuary, with beautifully constructed eco structures that have been built and lovingly cared for by the late Bob Dixon, who is now no longer with us, after passing into spirit in 2023. We are a family living in the SW Alentejo, Costa Vicentina, running a small rescue horse sanctuary in the middle of a forest, 12km from the ocean. Our main passion is the care and rehabilitation of rescued horses, providing them with a safe and loving home for life. We also do pedagogical work with teenagers, and in the winter season we work with medicinal & entheogenic mushrooms. We are currently in need of immediate help during the rest of June and the first 3 weeks in July! Their involvement is purely in the day-to-day care of our rescue horses and general upkeep of the sanctuary. We welcome you even if horse work isn't your main focus, there's always something to do around the property. Horses will always be around, and you'll have plenty of opportunity to connect with them. We're looking for people who love being around animals and enjoy working outdoors. If you enjoy simple hands-on tasks like helping maintain fences, clearing paths, basic gardening or forestry work, you'll f...

Hello everyone, I'm Mick, 43 years old, originally from the Italian Alps. After many years of travelling, the desire to slow down and create my own little harbour became stronger than ever. Seven years ago, I decided to settle down and buy a small farm in Portugal, where I now live together with my dog, cat, geese, chickens and ducks. The project originally started with my ex-girlfriend, and today I continue the journey on my own. The land is about two hectares and offers plenty of space to share with good-hearted and like-minded people. A beautiful river borders the property, there are natural springs with excellent drinking water, and we are surrounded by native forest. The nearest town with shops and amenities is only a 10–15 minute drive away. My vision is to live in harmony with nature and create a simple and respectful lifestyle, following permaculture principles and moving step by step towards greater self-sufficiency. At the moment, I am deeply involved in restoring and co...

We can offer accommodation (bedroom - as you can see on the picture - and separate bathroom for you) and meals of course. Behind the village the mountains start, so here is a lot of nature, the beaches are 30km away. The next town (Messines) is 4km away, the next village about 1km. We need helpers in September or October for two or three weeks for some work in our garden and building a wall of natural stones. We prefer a couple or two friends, but if you are a single helper, you can contact us as well. Helpers are very welcome to our house!

We do need help for all the different works, e.g. clearing the ground, cutting, potting plants. Work with plants, walking dogs, feeding chicken. We normally ask for help in the mornings, so most afternoons are free time for the helpers. As a helper you should like to spend some free time by your own and you can use our bikes to go around. Right now we need help with the plants, beside keeping the pots clean, weeding and potting. And we need help in taking care of the whole plot, sometimes we also need somebody help us with painting or cleaning. The accommodation for a helper will always be together with a bathroom, depending of the time of the year, it will be a guest-room or a caravan. We do live 8 km away from the next beach and we can offer a bike to get there. Our farm is situated near Faro Airport. If you like to work outside, nature and animals and if you also can enjoy free time for yourself, please contact us. We prefer now one helper with driving license and willing to d...

Could your hands be the ones to help us rescue our ‘Secret Garden’? Are you a van-lifer, camper or yurt dweller looking for a special spot to dwell, in exchange for a few hours of your time each week? Would you like to see HOW we are working to make the transition from surviving to thriving? Would you like to spend time in the beautiful Serra da Lousã region, with its many river beaches, walks, waterfalls and delicious local produce? Would you like to be the first to live in a new cob tiny house? If so, do get in touch with us, we’d love to hear from you… We (a couple from the UK with our 13-year-old son), have realised our dream of moving to Portugal and now we need your help to transform our land from overgrown garden destroyed by wild boar to the lush, productive, permaculture paradise we know it can be! You can see some of the damage they have done in the photos. We are building a cob tiny house too (see the photos) which will offer loads of interesting experiences for th...

Boy, we were so lucky to land this property and we may call this our home.......but it needs some TLC! So during the fires of 2017 basically everything was destroyed. Only the cork oak trees were resistant enough. We have beautiful old cork oaks on the property and one is crowned as the Kind Tree. It is a massive cork oak leaning into the valley. We built a yoga platform around it and the platform leans over the valley. The energy is magical. But that is just one thing and we are talking about a massive farm with 38H of land.......So we aim for the farm to be a stand alone in terms of water and power plus we also want to honor the virgin water springs and keep chemicals and plastics out. We have our own septic tanks and reuse the waist for regrowing the forest. The meadows are being reinstated and the houses (8 in total) will be rebuilt. In the meantime we do also enjoy what the property offers. Long hikes, a swim in our own lake, discovery of yet another beautiful ruin and how about ...

Helpers have their own bungalow by the ocean, with access to a kitchen where they can cook their own food, living room area with wifi, as well as bathroom area with a washing machine! In return we ask for help with two big dogs Bob and Bill, they need a lot of attention and long walks to the beach and around the trails by the ocean and the nearby forest area also, there are many beautiful places to walk with them and enjoy amazing sites and views around Azenhas do Mar which is a very charming area. With all the necessary conveniences. We also need help with cleaning the garden area and other chores. We always like to have a few voice calls with helpers before to make sure everyone feels happy and content with the situation and with each other's needs. Its has been a very interesting cultural exchange with also quite alot of opportunities to explore diverse sceneries and histories from Sintra, to Cascais to Lisbon which are all quite close making it a magical location!

Hi and welcome to Portugal! My name is Mike, a very active 55 years young, and I own 1.5 hectares of off-grid loveliness near Castelo Branco in central Portugal. It's a beautiful place - rugged, wild and free with great mountain views. This project was originally set up in the UK as a safe and chilled space at festivals to help people who may have done too much, lost their friends, or who were simply not up for a full-on party. A place were anyone can meet and make connections, and relax with people from all walks of life. We have travellers from all over the world and the dynamic is always changing, we love artists and musicians and anyone with a unique style or talent but as long as you're fun I'm sure you'll fit in and maybe you will learn something new and exciting! Our aim is to bring a little of that festival vibe here to Portugal, on a smaller scale. A haven to gather your thoughts, relax, and enjoy nature but at the same time have the opportunity to interact with others, exp...

Hey 🌞 Calling in conscious , aware, pro active , conscientious human/s who can take initiative and live and love this place and the animals that reside here , as their own . Essentially this is a long term opportunity that requires energy and input to improve the conditions and life for yourself and future generations. If the dynamics work then I would very much be open to a semi/ permanent situation. I am mostly not going to be here and so this is for those of you who envisage taking on a farmstead and all the things that come with it and so experience with horses goats dogs chickens etc would be a definite must . Plus the ability to live lightly as this is an off grid property . There is ample space for growing a garden , although t the storms earlier this year mean that new fencing is required . If you have building skills there’s potential for paid work and also the opportunity to build a space of your own ….if you are a creative feel free to make your mark … all good energy is ...

Hey there! This is a place where stray dogs get a second chance and you would be a major part of it! We are located in Portugal at the beautiful Algarve and are always looking for helpers who are experienced with dogs. The Experience Our private dog rescue started 15 years ago as a small foster home on our former horse farm. Over time, it developed into an organization that has helped more than 2,500 dogs find a new home since 2018. Our dogs live naturally in packs — around 60 adult dogs and about 20 puppies. Many of them transform within just a few days from fearful or traumatized animals into relaxed and social companions. This calm atmosphere is one of the biggest differences compared to many traditional shelters. As a true passion project, we are funded through our own resources, donations, partnerships, and government support. Program Details Our goal is to help as many dogs as possible find sustainable, loving homes. We work with eight municipal shelters across Portugal. Mos...

“The whole is more than the sum of its parts”. We are relaxed, open-minded and see life as an ongoing learning experience. Our project was born from the idea that ‘You have to be the change that you want to see in the world’ (Ghandi) and our approach is professional, based on respect, trust and integrity. To create an economical basis to live here and to maintain and develop the estate, we have created a unique, sustainable, artistic rural retreat, receiving guests from all over the world. Over the past period we have been investing in sustainability (heat pumps, more solar panels) and now (2025) we want to focus more on the development and regeneration of the 12-ha land and integrating aspects that we think are most important to life as we see it. Not in the last place in view of the current climate situation, it is not sufficient to be only sustainable, we must focus on water harvesting, regenerating the soil (regenerative agriculture, agroforestry). We have several gardens, orchard...

Welcome to my peaceful Quinta Vereda do Sossego in the rolling hills of central Portugal where the shepherds still walk their sheep through the olive fields! I live on 1.5 hectares of land with over 100 olive trees, amazing views onto the mountains, and a dream: to turn this place into a small, mindful sanctuary. Inspired by my time in a mindfulness community in Thailand (New Life Foundation, now closed), I’m slowly recreating that essence here. A space for presence, creativity, permaculture, simple routine and conscious living. I've build a guest building with compost toilet/shower/kitchen so I can accommodate some more lovely people here long term. From mindful volunteers to adventurous van-lifers to community seekers, I'm hoping to attract people who wanna connect and also love this kind of life. I practice mindfulnes, foraging, gardening, plant propagation, cooking, studying permaculture, and working to create a biodiverse ecosystem and welcoming spaces for guests and volunteer...

It is helpful to have 😊 a love of animals and nature, initiative and mindfulness, love - for what you do and for life.

*** 23/6/26 - LOOKING FOR LONG TERM HELPERS **** . Olá! We are Lois, Max and little Fauna and we are seeking a person, or a couple, to come and help us out with our daily tasks! Me (Lois) spent 2 years travelling Europe in my campervan, using Helpx to volunteer on farms before settling here on my own farm in Portugal. We are nestled in the beautiful rolling countryside just between the city of Castelo Branco & Fundao. We are completely off grid and keep a number of different animals, 4 donkeys, sheep, chickens, 4 cats and 3 dogs. We are looking for help with tasks like shepherding, planting & gardening, small building tasks, watering, helping with day to day tasks like feeding animals, cooking (if you'd like!) also special tasks like painting murals on outside buildings, if you're artistic! Our routine is dictated by the season and the animals, but generally we are looking for 5 hours of help a day, for 5 days a week. The accommodation would be our beautiful yurt, with own kitche...

Bedroom is free from 8-21 July. Also in July and September there is a huge indoor conservatory, and a good tent ( integrated floor zippable door or fly door)with a comfortable mattress etc available, using the house for meals and shade and general socialising etc. August is unavailable. From October onwards we are open to long stay requests...6 months or more- we could have a trial week or fortnight before committing to a long stay Also we would like to arrange help for next year MARCH and April, this would involve strimming ( rechargeable , metal blade Stihl, with mask etc) and for an experienced strimmer we could add some paid hours on top of the full board and bedroom . PLEASE no supporters of mass starvation and military actions against civilians... No climate change deniers ... We definitely would not get on!!!
