We have an organic farm in meadow land with a 2000 sq ft old house greenhouse on the coast of Maine. The farm consists of a main house, apartment, rental Barn and Boathouse. We always have work needed as this home has been in the same family for 200 years and it is an act of loving this old homestead and the history of the family. One the coast at the head of Penobscot Bay, we have high winds and waves and this year we need to raise our boathouse up, repair our high tunnel and plant for the season. We also need heat under our first floor and a new apartment in our large attic. We rent out space on our property and enjoy our guests. This farm is an endless challenge and we would love helpers who might enjoy the coast in this vital community of fishermen, farmers, musicians and artists. It is truly in a wonderful area. Our youngest is still at home and doing final school exams this year. Our nearest villages Crookhaven and Goleen are six miles away. Teaching other subjects to the children, teach adults English lesson, coach our football club. We're flexible in what you chose to do. In the afternoons volunteers run a program called “English Corner” where they teach English classes to local people, helping adults to improve their English skills. Many strive to learn English in order to have better job opportunities in the future. The classes are a wonderful opportunity for the volunteers and the local community members to learn from each other. The cultural exchange helps the volunteers to leaning and understand more about Tanzanian customs and develop an ear for local Swahili. The property is 33ha of native forest with two creeks located in the subtropics, 15 km from Lismore and 50 min from Byron Bay. Accommodation is a self-contained studio which includes kitchen, en-suite and wi-fi. We welcome guests, for one week, to help with house and garden for 12 hours per week per guest. We offer accommodation and two dinners - usually Monday and Thursday. You will provide and organize your other meals. Your studio has a kitchen with stove, fridge, and cooking equipment. You will have lots of time to explore our beautiful surroundings and a car is necessary. Most beaches and National Parks are 30 mins away. Our home has an acre of partly native vegetation, organic food garden and chickens.
