The Fitzgerald National Park is a World Heritage listed area with amazing things to see that you will not see else where. The lake is filling up after two years of less than half our rainfall, so canoeing is possible, there are many other waterways within a reasonable distance to canoe on also. The farm is an organic farm where we have been growing some of our own food so work is needed in this area to increase production to become self-sufficient in the future. My husband and I moved to this 240 acre farm in the South Burnett Region of South East Qld 2 years ago and have recently moved into a purpose built cottage (to reduce our footprint) relying on rainwater for the house and bore water for the gardens and to reduce our footprint further we have installed a composting toilet. 40 fruit trees have been planted and raised garden beds made which is the start of our edible oasis. I live in the Beautiful Beach side town of Dodges Ferry with a great surfing beach only a 10minute walk or 2 minute drive away. There are also multiple other beautiful beaches in the town including a couple that are great for Kayaking. Dodges Ferry is a 40 minute drive from Hobart, 1 hour drive to Port Arthur and Tasman National Park. If you don't have your own means of transport, there are approximately four buses that run to and from Hobart each day and I can potentially lend you a bike to get around the local area. We live in a large old house 20km inland of Byron Bay, in a quiet area of farmland and bush. We have a large garden and vegetable garden which is where we primarily need help. We have chickens, cats and 2 donkeys! We can offer a separate 'cottage' to stay in, and we provide all meals- some helpers have not wanted to go home! There is our new natural pool to cool off in too. In return we request 4 hours of genuine work per day. We are 8km from the nearest village so your own car is a big advantage, although we can pick you up if you don't have transport. We are looking for happy helpers around our Hostel. Duties include checking people in, cleaning, making beds, vacuuming, bathrooms, putting out breakfast booking people in and generally being a social and engaging person with our guests. There is breakfast included, and internet and wifi as well as tea and coffee. A BBQ once per week and pasta nights all free for our helpxers. We provide you with a food allowance of $80 each person each week. All accommodation is either in a female or mixed dorm or for the more intrepid one of our tents with bedding provided.
