We are a Family of 3 located on a northern beach suburb 10 minutes out of the city of Cairns. We have a nature reserve at the back of our house with many Australian native animals including Wallabies, with beautiful walking tracks to the beach. We - myself and student son - live in a terrace house next to the main park in Sydney, Australia. It is a two story house and I occupy the upstairs. The room that is available is on the ground floor with your own bathroom and access to the kitchen and garden (see photos). The house is very clean and your room is private with a double bed and some storage. I have a small dog who is quiet and wont bother you. We prefer you do not cook or consume animals in the house but can use the BBQ outside if you prefer. The house is one block from buses to the city (20 minutes), the beach (10 minutes) and a major shopping mall (Bondi) within walking distance. You can catch one bus to Central Railway and from there go to all areas of the city and the Blue Mountains. The work is mainly gardening drying mangoes and packing dried fruit and sometime we dry pineapple and dry banana, cleaning and cooking. We are a fit and active couple in our 70s who have recently bought a home (2021) right by the water on Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, 30km from Brisbane. It has great views over the bay and has good access to fishing, crabbing, safe swimming and boating. There is a fast and regular ferry to the mainland that takes 20 minutes. There are also several other islands nearby that can be explored including North Stradbroke Island that has wonderful beaches and walks and lots of wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, turtles and dolphin and - from June to October - humpback whales. Over the next two years we will renovate and paint the home, install new kitchen and two bathrooms. ANIMAL CARE VOLUNTEER at a sanctuary for rescued farm animals. Farm Animal Rescue is a registered charity that rescues farm animals from abuse, neglect and situations where they are in danger and provides them with a forever home. Free accommodation is provided in a shared room in our volunteer bungalow in return for three and a half days per week providing animal care. No experience is necessary, full training will be given. We reimburse food costs up to $10 a day. Minimum stay is two weeks.. Days will include dawn and dusk with breaks in between. Duties include daily cleaning of barns and coops, feeding, health checks, light maintenance work, monitoring herd movements and intensive care of ill, old and baby animals.
