I live in Kuranda, but travel often so plenty of opportunities to see new places. I'm a beekeeper that works between Cairns and Cooktown. This time of year my work is situated north of cairns so there plenty opportunity to explore north were not alot of tourist go. The work involves collecting bee hives for honey extraction and queen bee rearing this gives us plenty of time to explore. In spare time we can go to the local Rivers (Baron Gorge), local swimming holes or hiking. Task also involve house work and gardening. The work is not hard, suits male or females and is always varied, recreational activities after work as swimming, hanging out at the beach and camping.

We have a bush block with a 1km frontage to Pelican Lagoon Aquatic Reserve and Pelican Lagoon Conservation Park. Work is in our large vegetable garden, rock wall building and other construction projects, track maintenance, general household duties and computer. We work a 5 hour day not including time for lunch and smoko, although all these times are flexible. Sassafras is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The farm has outstanding views over to the coast, which is 40 minutes away. In the coast there are beautiful beaches, surf and Jervis Bay. Sassafras is a small area inside Moreton National Park so expect to wake up to see Kangaroos and wallabies outside your window. More shy but regular visitors are wombats, quolls and gliders. The birds life is plentiful and beautiful as well. Our farm has truffles, and lots of maintenance tasks to help with - come and help me plant and set up new projects - lavender/ herb garden etc. it would be lovely to have you come and stay but you would enjoy it more with a car of your own. We enjoy meeting travellers from around the world and also enjoy the help with cleaning, dog walking, sorting, painting & gardening. We offer a bedroom with queen bed and good food for 20 hours work a week, which can be done flexibly. And it’s fine if you want to work less hours & organise your own food.
