Wow, exploring right outside our backdoor along side the Campbell River on Vancouver Island, is a beautiful place to experience Vancouver Island`s great outdoors this FALL with all the wild life right in our back yard :) Although we live on a one acre town lot, our back yard is situated on a cliff over looking an accessible beautiful heritage river, with a nature park setting of ferns, Douglas fir, maple and alder trees. You can often see deer, raccoons, bears and the silver backs of salmon and Steelhead fish jumping in the ebb and flow of the river’s pools. We have trail access to the river below, where you can enjoy listening to the sing song of many birds, tubing down the river/swimming in the heat of the summer, and trying your hand at casting for Steelhead fish. This is a very healthy warm dry desert climate, where viruses do not thrive. At our farm here in the Coachella Valley, we grow 6 varieties of dates; Medjool, Barhi, Khadrawi, Khalas, Halawi & Zahidi. Tasks include irrigation, pruning, picking, fertilizing, pollination, clean-up, compost, trenching, house cleaning, road repair. We clean our soaking pools regularly and the farm could use the help of an electrician or skills with concrete, and also someone with adequate videography and editing skills and also automotive repair skills. We are very lucky to live on a farm in the beautiful Lake District, just on the edge of the National Park in Cumbria; the farm dates back to the late 1600's. Over the years parts of it have been renovated and added to and some parts are looking a little sorry for themselves! Myself, my sister and my 14yr old nephew live and work on the farm running a small accommodation business and a Friesian horse sanctuary. We have big plans for the farm in the future, however for now we could do with a little help with day-to-day living. We are on the outskirts of the lovely village of Cartmel which is home to an ancient Priory, a small racecourse, several very good restaurants and pubs and it is famously the home of Sticky Toffee Pudding! You can walk into the village from the farm in just under 20 minutes and there is a local grocery store and several pubs where you can meet friendly locals and visitors from all over the world. We cannot offer any work until September. I will talk about what we need help with first. We have a variety of activities both outside and in the garage in spring, and autumn. At the moment, one important focus is for a person or a couple with the necessary building skills to build gate posts using reclaimed bricks..There is also olive picking and pruning and the clean up after the pruning. These are jobs for autumn or early spring. As summer starts earlier and is hotter we have few options in summer. You could plan ahead to join us for the olive harvest in October. Picking is three days intensive work followed by a two day break. But be aware, we do work all day during picking. In addition, if you can use a heavy motorised strimmer or other form of cutter there are other jobs available but they require strength.
