Great Mackerel Beach is a magical place in Sydney. A small and peaceful community with lots of wildlife; expect to see wallabies and plenty of local birds. If you have seen the television series 'Home and Away' then you will recognise 'Summer Bay' across the water. A safe beach is only metres from the door. The view from the house is stunning as we look across to Barrenjoey Lighthouse and Palm Beach. We are a fit and active couple in our 70s who have recently bought a home (2021) right by the water on Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, 30km from Brisbane. It has great views over the bay and has good access to fishing, crabbing, safe swimming and boating. There is a fast and regular ferry to the mainland that takes 20 minutes. There are also several other islands nearby that can be explored including North Stradbroke Island that has wonderful beaches and walks and lots of wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, turtles and dolphin and - from June to October - humpback whales. The school teaches children from Kindergarten (3-5 years old) to Secondary School (15 years old). We need Volunteers who would like to teach basic English or basic Chinese. Your work is mainly with the youngest children, using flash cards, games, songs and puzzles. We play to learn!
