I`m always glad of help with my 1/4 ha - projects like building the vegie garden; trimming back the ever enroaching bush, or projects around the house. The arrangement is 2 hours in exchange for accommodation (14 hours a week), looking after your own food but sharing our kitchen. Gondwana, the larger community that Lotus Ponds is part of, is about 50 people with a community house and hall with weekly community dinner and meditations, yoga, table tennis & pool tables with levels of activity that depend on who is here. We live in the inner west suburb of Petersham in Sydney, close to public transport. We enjoy meeting travellers from around the world and also enjoy the help with cleaning, dog walking, sorting, painting & gardening. We offer a bedroom with queen bed and good food for 20 hours work a week, which can be done flexibly. And it’s fine if you want to work less hours & organise your own food. If you’re heading north, we have a place 20 minutes north-west of Taree where we’d like help with cleaning, painting, gardening etc but you’d need a car to get there. We are a retired couple plus Alfie the labradoodle and have hosted many HelpXers over the years.

We are a small homestead with gardens and animals with a surface of 3.000 square meters. We cultivate fruit (about 25 trees: orange, mandarine, apple, almond, olive, etc), and vegetables. We have a lot of chicken (about 80) as well as a few cats (10) and dogs (3) running around. Other than that we try to produce a few organic products such as tomato sauce, dried tomatoes, and figs and make our own olives. We prefer longer stays, ideally a minimum of 6 weeks commitment. Helpers will have their own bed in a mixed dormitory (sleeping up to 4 people) reserved especially for staff & helpers, and will also have full access to the hostel's amenities, such as a fully equipped kitchen, piano, guitar, books & games, outdoor seating areas, laundry machines and use of the storage areas for wetsuits, surfboards & bicycles. Gardening, housework, light mechanical, a bit of hunting, all sorts of things, never boring.A wicked sense of humor is a good asset to bring. handy to Routeburn and Greenstone tracks. You will need your own internet connection as I don't supply wifi. A bit isolated, not for the precious, no trophy hunters!! Please don't apply unless you intend to come for a minimum stay of two weeks. One person only. We do not get involved with internships or visa applications. Vegetarians and vegans would probably not be comfortable as we eat meat daily. I am off grid and totally dependent on solar, so you have to charge your devices during the day and definitely no hairdryers! (5min from town) Work on the farm is based mainly around horses and helping with day to day care for them. Feeding, grooming, playing and training. We have around 10 or so horses to care for and look after. Our farm is located in Bridgetown, which is around 3 hours from Perth. Buses run daily from Perth.
