HAPPY SUMMER 2026 Things have been moving along, slow but meticulously! It feels good to be making progress and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel…on my sailboat. I am taking some time off until late July and then begin working on my sailboat again. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities; a lot to do, at any skill level. Many projects take only 5-30 minutes to explain and easy for someone new to do the specific project well. Other projects require knowledgeable skills and other projects necessitate someone that has a fair amount of specific experience. This is a mountain hut immersed in Italy's largest protected park, at 1300 meters, in a forest on Mount Pollino. Managed by an official guide of the park, we organize excursions, canyoning, hiking, climbing and horseback riding throughout the park. The refuge consists of five rooms (with bathrooms) for a total of twenty beds. Kitchen and dining room in common. Helpers sleep in a room that they share together. I usually live in Australia with my husband but have returned to Japan to look after my 100-year-old mother at her house in Yokohama, an hours drive south of Tokyo. My husband will soon return to Australia as the fire season is approaching and there are dangers for our house in the forest there (see BLOG and WEBSITE). With only me looking after my mother it is quite intense as I can get little rest, and according to my mother's doctor, the intensity will only increase towards the end of the year. I have 10 years experience building with rice husks (hulls) which is an excellent material for monsoon areas, and I have combined this knowledge with ideas from Earthships to create a truly cool building, dry and cold in heat and rain, and warm in winter, using natural and local materials, and recycled tires and bottles. Starting in June and continue through the summer and fall. We would like help inside and outside and with plenty of gardening and watering of the garden. Outdoor work includes keeping the gardens tidy, cutting and trimming of trees and mowing the lawn. Also the helper must be able to lift and haul fireplace wood and (ideally) know the use of a chain saw but not necessary. All these tasks we do together. Hello, I live in the beautiful Charente region 16140, and am looking for help with all sorts of jobs, from feeding the donkeys and other animals to painting and helping in the garden 😊 I am slowly bringing this lovely old château back to life after being empty and abandoned for many years. We run a well-known organic market garden in the Alpes Maritime, right on the Riviera coast and the Italian border. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and popular with tourists. Our garden is on mountain terraces above the town, but only a 10 minute walk to the beach and 20 to the old town. Access is easy by train or bus from Nice or Italy. For the next 5 months we are looking for hands-on and experienced support with a number of urgent tasks. This could be a paid situation for an experienced person willing to contract for the season which ends 30 September. The work includes sowing, planting, fertilising, harvesting for market, basic landscaping, fencing, irrigation repair and DIY/maintenance and will probably best suit a fit and younger male helper. We are a family living in the beautiful village of Herand in the middle of Hardanger. We live close to the fjord and have an accounting firm and a software company that we live off of + some rental of beds in the summer. We have a small greenhouse and a small farm where we have some vegetables. Summer is a busy time and we need 2-3 positive people to help us with different work. We live by the harbour, and have a small farm 2 km away. We have boats, kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. You can use a cabin in the mountains if you wish. The area is well suited for walking or cycling. Normal working hours are 4-5 hours per day.
